Lucero Barraza, M.S.

Lucero Barraza is a research assistant at the Coastal Ecosystem Processes lab. She received a B.S in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona and an M.S. in Coastal and Marine System Studies from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. During her undergraduate career, she was a student research assistant assisting with studying mammals and reptiles unique to the Sonoran Desert. Her Master’s thesis focused on harmful algal blooms and the effects they have on the water quality along the Coastal Bend.

Lucero is passionate about social justice and is committed to using an interdisciplinary lens of biological and social sciences to address complex problems. During her time at TAMU-CC, she looks forward to contributing to equity-driven research that centers on the needs of local communities, while proposing conservation efforts. Lucero’s goal is to create pathways that will make conservation science more accessible to marginalized communities like her own.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, going to concerts, and exploring new restaurants.
