Texas OneGulf Center of Excellence
Following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster and passage of the RESTORE Act, Texas OneGulf was established in 2015 as a Texas Center of Excellence under the administration of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The mission of Texas OneGulf is to improve understanding the Gulf of Mexico large marine ecosystem and its effects on human health and well-being for the betterment of both.
In its initial years of operation, Texas OneGulf supported 7 research projects totaling nearly $3 million in RESTORE funding. The diversity and interdisciplinary nature of the projects helped OneGulf become a reliable source of information for Texas decision makers and resource managers working to protect the Gulf and its coastal communities.
Texas OneGulf is now embarking on a new research program while making even stronger ties to Texas leaders and stakeholders. We have established the Texas OneGulf Agency Council to work with our Leadership Consortium group in identifying high priority decision-making needs and research projects that can shed light on complex issues. We also are re-engaging our Network of Experts, comprised of over 160 top researchers across the state, to work with stakeholders in developing innovative, coproduced, resilient solutions that work for Texas.
In advance of its FY23 funding competition for $2 million, Texas OneGulf completed a three-part workshop series that focused on providing guidance and relationship building for potential applicants. The results of those workshops may be found here:
Workshop 1: Texas OneGulf Workshop Series: Interdisciplinary Research 101
Workshop 2: Texas OneGulf Workshop Series: Interdisciplinary PIs & End-User Matchmaking
• Breakout Group 1 – Community Resilience
• Breakout Group 2 – Estuarine & Coastal Environments
Workshop 3: Texas OneGulf Workshop Series: Data and Methods Exchange
• Texas OneGulf Agency Council: Partner Overviews
