Alex is a Ph.D. candidate with the Coral Reef and Ocean Health Lab studying under Dr. Keisha Bahr. Her dissertation investigates local and global human impacts on coastal ecosystems (i.e., coral reefs and oyster reefs) while simultaneously creating a high school science curriculum aimed to empower and engage underrepresented students in STEM fields. Originally from Cape Cod, MA, she received a B.Sc. in Marine Science in 2017 and a M.Sc. in Marine Studies in 2020 from the University of Delaware. Between these degrees, Alex taught 8th grade science at Roxbury Prep Charter School in Boston, MA where she discovered a passion for teaching and science communication. Her passion lies at the intersection of education and research, at the heart of environmental stewardship. She wants to understand the intricate relationships between humans and coastal ecosystems, to empower communities and individuals with the information they need to make informed choices.

She is happiest by the water, spending time with her family and her dog Coral, or rooting for a Boston sports team!
