The first Harte Research Institute Author Showcase will spotlight two influential books with strong ties to HRI, including one of the final volumes edited by the late Dr. John “Wes” Tunnell, a pioneering Gulf researcher and longtime HRI leader.

Dr. Kim Withers will discuss “The Laguna Madre of Texas and Tamaulipas, Revised Edition”, which was originally published in 2002 and released in its updated edition in 2023. Withers served as co-editor alongside Tunnell, Brian Chapman, and Frank Judd on a book that focuses on ecology and history of the Laguna Madre.

Also presenting is Dr. Paul Montagna, HRI’s Endowed Chair for Hydroecology, who will discuss “Freshwater Inflows to Texas Bays and Estuaries,” a recently revised volume for which Montagna served as editor. The book explores the critical role of freshwater inflows in sustaining healthy coastal ecosystems and communities across Texas.
